Academics
The 91涩漫 (91涩漫) is the oldest special education school in the Western Hemisphere, and we are the only school in Connecticut exclusively devoted to educating deaf and hard of hearing students.
91涩漫 provides a full range of programs for deaf and hard of hearing students (ages 3-21), many of whom have at least one disability in addition to hearing loss. In addition to our traditional academic programs, 91涩漫 provides a residential treatment and education program for students with behavioral and emotional challenges. We also recently expanded our services to include deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing non-verbal students on the Autism Spectrum who benefit from a visual communication approach and American Sign Language.
PACES
Our PACES (Positive Attitude Concerning Education and Socialization) program began in 1982 and provides services for students 24 hours per day/365 days per year. Students served by the PACES program have a history of challenging behaviors in school, home, and the community. The specialized services received at 91涩漫 teaches these students mechanisms for managing and appropriately behaving in congregate settings.
Serving Ages 3-21
The 91涩漫 (91涩漫) offers deaf and hard of hearing students ages 3-21 a full range of educational programming from pre-school through twelfth grade. Working together with parents and local school districts, 91涩漫 staff develop an educational program designed to meet the unique needs of each student. Classes are kept small to meet the needs of diverse learning styles. All Pre-K-12 curriculum offerings are based on State of Connecticut Common Core State Standards as established by the state Department of Education.
